History of the Practice
After rounding the copse of trees that overlook the
Evenlode Valley coming from Burford, Dr Gordon Scott Senior decided
this was a beautiful area to live and to practise. He began in 1936
and was entirely single-handed. Dr Sandy Scott started in 1971 and
the practice remained single-handed until 1978. Dr David Nixon
joined the practice in 1995, Dr Nina Brown in 2001 and Dr Ken Mann
in 2003.
The practice regards itself as forward looking and embracing the
best of modern medicine with the advantages of technology to enhance
patient care. We still strive to retain many of the values of family
practice with personal care, continuity, easy access to the surgery
and visiting where appropriate.
The practice is part of the Cherwell Valley Primary Care Trust
(PCT), which is based in North Oxfordshire around Banbury.
Training Practice
The practice is an approved Training Practice. This means we have
met certain quality criteria in our standards of patient care and
organisation. There will usually be a Registrar in the practice, who
is a fully qualified and experienced doctor, being trained in the
speciality of general practice prior to becoming an independent GP.
You may be offered an appointment with, or wish to see, the
Registrar which most patients find a positive experience.
Disabled Access
The surgery has a dropped curb directly opposite the front entrance.
There is a gently sloping ramp with a hand rail directly from the
footpath to the front entrance, allowing wheelchair access and
easier access for those with walking difficulties. There is a toilet
offering facilities for the disabled adjacent to the patients'
waiting room. All consulting rooms, treatment rooms, dispensary and
patients' waiting areas are on the ground floor.
Services Available
We have always attempted to keep services within the surgery or
locally, thereby avoiding the long journeys to the (nearest)
district general hospitals in Oxford, Cheltenham or Banbury.
Services provided by the practice include diabetes management,
physiotherapy, foot care, diet advice, counselling and travel
medicine. An optician visits monthly.
As our practice area is largely within Oxfordshire, our referral
orientation and contracts are mostly with the Oxfordshire Group of
hospitals, which enjoy an excellent reputation for their clinical
skills. |
