Antenatal Classes
bulletPlease consult your health visitor or midwife about these.

Antenatal Clinic
bulletThe doctors, midwife and health visitor run this clinic. It is held on Monday afternoons by appointment from 1.30pm - 3.15pm with the midwife and 1.30pm - 2.30pm with the doctor. Dr Nixon and Dr Mann will see antenatal patients during their normal surgeries.

Cervical Smears
bullet One of the practice nurses usually takes the smear test during the well woman clinic. They may also be carried out during afternoon surgery by the practice nurses by appointment. It is recommended that all women (between the ages of 25 and 65) should have the test every 3-5 years and invitations are sent out at the appropriate times.

Child Health Clinic
bulletThe child immunisation clinic is held on Tuesday afternoons from 1.30pm - 4.00pm. This clinic is to carry out childhood immunisations. The Health Visitor will arrange appointments for routine development checks directly with the parents. Parents are encouraged to discuss any problems about their child with the health visitor and/or their doctor. Patients are seen at the immunisation clinic by appointment.
Chlamydia Screening for under 25 year olds
bulletThe surgery is taking part in a national screening programme for Chlamydia. Anyone under 25 years old who would like to self-test and be screened or would like more information about the screening programme should either come and see a Practice Nurse or their doctor or ask a receptionist for a screening kit.
 
Citizens Advice
 
bulletCitizens Advice continue to hold their Tuesday morning session at the surgery offering free confidential advice on benefit, house, debt, work problems and much more. If you would like to make an appointment please contact Reception to make an appointment.
 
Diabetic Clinic
bulletThe practice runs a complete service for all diabetic patients, who are reviewed regularly. Patients are seen by the nurse and their own GP, they may also see the dietician and podiatrist as required, by appointment. There is a facility available once a year for diabetic patients to receive digital retinopathy checks free of charge, at the surgery. Appointments will be sent out to patients offering this check. Patients will be seen by the lead nurse, Sue Allen, who monitors diabetics in conjunction with the patient’s usual doctor.

Family Planning
bulletThe doctors and nurses provide a full range of family planning services and preconceptual counselling.

Health Checks
bullet New Patient Health Checks.
All patients who have registered with the practice are invited to participate in a 'new patient health check' within six months of joining. During the consultation, such enquiries/examinations will be made as appear to be appropriate under the circumstances.
bullet Other Health Checks.
Any patient between the age of 16 and 74 who has not attended a consultation/clinic at the surgery in the last three years can request a consultation of which the practice will make such enquiries as appear to be appropriate in the circumstances.

Patients over 75, who have not participated in a consultation in the last 12 months can also request such a consultation. This can take place in the patient's home if it is felt reasonable that it would be inappropriate for the patient to attend the surgery premises.


Healthy Heart Clinic
bullet This a nurse run clinic.  These patients should have an annual assessment and follow-up appointments as frequently as recommended by the nurse or doctor. Patients are seen in clinic by appointment.

Immunisations And Travel Clinic
bulletFor travel outside Western Europe you may need immunisations and/or anti-malarial tablets.

Please contact MASTA through their website www.masta.org who will send you a detailed list of the immunisations you require and general travel advice. MASTA charge a nominal fee for this information.  Bring this information with you when you visit the practice nurse who can then discuss and provide the relevant immunisations.

The practice is an accredited Yellow Fever Centre.

Influenza vaccine is available in October/November each year and immunisations will be given, wherever possible, in special surgery clinics. Those patients who should receive the influenza vaccine will be written to in advance and asked to arrange an appointment.

Pneumococcal vaccine is available and patients who should receive this immunisation will be identified and written to inviting them to make an appointment or to see the practice nurse.

Mammogram
bulletThere is a national breast cancer screening service, which is administered centrally from Oxford. The mobile service visits the area annually. The service is offered to all women between the ages of 50 and 65 years and the follow-up is every three years. If you are in this age group you will automatically be sent an appointment by the administration centre.

Minor Surgery
bulletThe practice undertakes appropriate minor surgery.

Nail Cutting
bullet There is a local service run by Age Concern called Sole Mates (details are available at the surgery).

Optician
bulletA local optician holds monthly sessions in the surgery. In addition to a full optical refraction service for any patient within the practice, they offer eye assessment on all pre-school children and all those with glaucoma.

Physiotherapy
bulletThe practice has a contract with the Breakspeare Clinic for it to provide an NHS physiotherapy service for our patients. This service is available only to those patients who meet strict NHS referral criteria and referral is by a doctor.

The Breakspeare Clinic offers physiotherapy and sports injury treatments, and education to prevent recurrence of injury and damage as well as treatment is a major emphasis. Should patients wish to self-refer to the clinic they should make direct contact on 01993 830913.

Podiatrist (Foot Care)
bulletA podiatrist holds three clinics a month to attend to the foot problems of certain patients. These include those with diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. Patients are referred by the doctors and are seen by appointment.

Respiratory Clinic
bulletThis is a nurse-run clinic, lead nurse being Sue Fitzpatrick. Clinics are held on Wednesday afternoons and alternate with the Well Woman Clinic between 1.30-2.20pm or 3.00-17.20pm. All patients with asthma should have an initial appointment for assessment and regular follow-up appointments as frequently as recommended by the nurse or doctor. Patients are seen by appointment or in some cases consultations can be by pre-arranged telephone appointments.

Smoking Cessation
bulletMelanie Bryant, one of our practice nurses, counsels patients on smoking cessation. Patients who seek help and/or advice in quitting smoking can discuss this with Melanie by appointment. Well Man Checks
bulletThese are normally carried out by one of the practice nurses and involve a blood pressure check together with a discussion on diet and lifestyle. A well man check can be arranged in any of the practice nurse surgeries.

Well Woman Clinic
bulletThis clinic is held weekly. It consists of a health check and offers the opportunity for discussion of women’s problems and family planning. The clinic is run by the practice nurses and patients are seen by appointment.
